Quarantine in some form or another has been going on for a while now. As divers, we miss diving and the dive socialization that comes with it. Never fear though, there are still dive-related things you can do while in quarantine!

  1. Sign up for eLearning: a lot of people are taking this time to learn new skills or get back to old skills. Why not you? If you’ve always wanted to learn SCUBA, or want to upgrade your current certification, start with an eLearning course. Since eLearning is all online-based, it’s easy to do from home quarantine! Visit our “COURSES” page and get info on the course of your choice.

  2. Work on your physical fitness: Seems everyone these days has posted videos of their workouts. The problem is, not all workouts work for everyone. Divers need strong cores to be able to carry tanks and climb ladders. Our friend April, a certified Gyrotonics instructor at Balanced Spirals, has some great core workouts for divers. You can check out her videos HERE

  3. Work on your navigation skills: It’s a good time to break out that compass you probably haven’t used in a while and practice! In some dive areas a compass may not be necessary, but compass navigation is a valuable skill to maintain. “Navigate” around your house, yard or driveway, and be ready when you can dive again.

  4. Learn what those fish/critters are called: Break out the FISH ID book or find a site online and study up! Be ready to impress your dive buddies the next time you dive.

  5. Check out your dive gear: Now is a good time to look at your gear and check it’s condition. You’ll know in advance of your dive if something needs servicing or replacing. When DID you have that gear serviced last anyway? Are your tanks needing inspection or hydro testing? With this information at hand, you’ll know what you need to do before your next dive trip. You might want to also practice setting it up for a dive so you’ll be more proficient on the next dive trip.

These are just a few ideas for you to consider during quarantine. After all, there’s only so much binge-watching you can do, right?

You will have a great time when you do YOUR dives or certification courses with me! Whether you’re an Open Water student, refreshing some rusty skills, or moving higher on the certification ladder, I’ve got the course for you!  Check out our “COURSES” page and sign up with me today!
